Mawkyrwat, South Khasi Hills

Mawkyrwat is the headquarters of South West Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya state in India. The South West Khasi Hills district was carved out of the West Khasi Hills district on 3 August 2012.

South West Khasi Hills District can be easily reached by road from Shillong and Nongstoin of Meghalaya. Sumos, Bus services are available from Anjali Bus Stand, Bara Bazaar(Iew-Duh), Shillong. From Nongstoin Bus Stand the same can be availed. The Distance from Shillong to Mawkyrwat is approximately 75km

15 Kms from Mawkyrwat and 60 Kms from Shillong at lawblei (Jakrem) on the Shillong-Mawkyrwat road is the Hot Sulphur Spring. During winter it is a favourite picnic spot and people throng the spring. Most of them come to take bath for it is believed that the water has medical properties.
