Thangu is about 27 kilometers from Lachen. It takes more than an hour to cover this short distance due to the high damage of the road and regular landslides, also making maintenance a problem. From Gangtok Lachen is about 6 to 7 hours drive. Most tourists stay overnight at Lachen and visit Thangu on their way to the more famous Gurudongmar Lake visit.

Thangu always feels like one of those places that quietly steals the show on the way to Gurudongmar. The raw landscape, the thin mountain air, and that untouched feel make the bumpy ride completely worth it. Hats off to the photographer — the image really captures the stark beauty of North Sikkim.

Thangu Valley truly feels untouched and raw, especially with those dramatic landscapes on the way from Lachen. The road conditions may be tough, but the beauty definitely makes up for it.
